NEW: 5/18/2012 - This years Mandatory Spring Meeting had a great turnout.  Thanks to all for coming and as your reward, you get 1 Attendance Point as described in the 2012 Attendance Policy, which was handed out that night.

4/24/2012 - The new rules for 2012 have been released, and there are 8 of them.  Some important ones: 1) A player must leave the game for 1 play if his helmet comes completely off, 2) Definition of a legal catch has been revised requiring a receiver to come down inbounds regardless of the action by an opponent, 3) During a free Kick, the kicking will now be prohibited from making contact against members of the receiving team before the ball breaks the receiving teams restraining line.  Read the NFHS 2012 Rules Rlease for details.  You can get additional information on the NFHS website at

-The Official’s Night out was a huge success, we raised over $7000 for the NHFOC (New Haven Football Official's Charity) to distribute throughout the year to Brother Officials in need and charities supported through fellow officials. Thanks go out to Board10, the basketball officials had a strong presence.  A part of the proceeds generated this evening will be given to the family of Doug Chernovetz. Doug, the son of IAABO Commissioner Buddy Chernovetz, passed away suddenly and with the donations from Board 10 and the overall success of the night, we will present a check of $2000 to help the family out in their time of need.  A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU to all who donated or solicited prizes for the raffle, but a special thanks to the following for donations to the LIVE Auction, Steve Narracci, Jimmy Brennan, Mike Barbaro and Jeff Rotteck. 10/24/2011 - A question has come up as to pants lengths on players. We do not have the same rule as the NCAA or NFL.  Pants must cover the knees and the pads must be in the pants or covered by the pants.  This is in a STANDING POSITION.  If the player goes into a crouch and there is some "ride up" we understand this, but players are rolling up their pants to look like guys on Saturdays or Sundays. This is illegal. Get them down or tell them they can't play until they get them down.  Putting them on the sideline and telling their coach why they can't play is more effective than a five-yard penalty. However, if the player is not detected and he plays with the pants up, he needs to be penalized. It’s a five-yard penalty for not wearing required equipment properly. Let's not get to that point.  If a player comes in with pants rolled up, send him off.  Every official is responsible for this, not just the umpire

10/18/2011 - An additional general meeting has been added to the 2011 meeting schedule.  It is scheduled for Wednesday November 9th at the German-American Club at the University of New Haven. far so good.  The meeting will start at 6:30pm.  Dinner will begin at 7:00pm for those that wish to stay after the general membership meeting.  Cost will be $20/person plus cash bar.  There will not be any new candidate or newer officials meetings on this day.  Contact President LiBrandi with any questions.
